Mourinho Confirms Fabregas Interest But Leaves Door Open For Arsenal + Man Utd
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed his interest in signing Cesc Fabregas but has left the door open to Arsenal and Man Utd to hijack their proposed deal.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Jose Mourinho speaks out on his interest in Cesc Fabregas.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed his interest in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas but has left the door open to Arsenal and Manchester United to potentially hijack the move after claiming no deal will be completed before the World Cup.
Fabregas’s time at the Nou Camp looks set to come to an end just three years after he forced a move back ‘home’ from Arsenal in 2011, when he cited it was a dream to return to his boyhood club after eight years in North London.
However, his time back in Spain hasn’t gone according to plan and despite posting some impressive figures in terms of goals and assists, the 27-year-old has never really established himself as a vital member of the Catalans first team and widespread reports have suggested he’s now set to leave this summer with the Premier League touted as his most likely destination.
Reports in recent days have claimed that Chelsea are leading the chase for Fabregas’s signature with some even suggesting it was a ‘done deal’. However, while Jose Mourinho has confirmed his interest in the Spanish international, the Blues boss appears in no rush to tie up a deal as he’s claimed nothing will be resolved before the World Cup kicks off.
“I’m interested to look at his [Fabregas’s] situation.
“I think he is eager to leave Barcelona and very motivated by the idea of returning to England. I think that is pretty clear.
“After that, whether he signs for us or someone else is not a question for today, tomorrow or before the World Cup.

Mourinho’s comments suggest that, contrary to many newspaper reports, no deal is close to being completed and should Chelsea allow this to drag out until the end of the World Cup, as the Portuguese coach suggests, it will leave the door wide open the likes of Manchester United and possibly Arsenal to come in and hijack the move.
United have been long linked with Fabregas and reports today suggested the deposed champions were ready to renew their interest with new boss Louis van Gaal so far frustrated in his attempts to land other targets, and Chelsea’s failure to push through a deal for Fabregas quickly is only going to give the Red Devils more encouragement.
Much to the disappointment of many Arsenal fans, Arsene Wenger has so far rejected the chance to activate the clubs first refusal buy-back clause on their former skipper as the Frenchman doesn’t feel he needs to add a creative midfielder this summer. However, situations can change quickly and should the likes of Ramsey, Ozil or Wilshere pick up a nasty injury over the coming weeks, Wenger may find himself in need of midfield reinforcements and I’m sure he’d not hesitate in turning to his former protege to fill the void.
It’s going to be interesting to see where Fabregas end’s up as it’s not often one of the world’s best midfielders comes on the market and it will be great to see him back in the Premiership if he ends up returning to England this summer.
