Arsenal + Liverpool Prepare Offers For World Cup Star
Arsenal and Liverpool are preparing to make offers to Guillermo Ochoa after watching the Mexican goalkeeper put in some excellent displays at the World Cup
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Guillermo Ochoa.
Arsenal and Liverpool are preparing to make offers to Guillermo Ochoa after watching the Mexican goalkeeper put in some excellent displays at the World Cup, according to reports today.
Ochoa is set to become a free agent this summer as his contract at lowly French outfit Ajaccio is due to expire at the end of the month and he’s made it clear he won’t be signing an extension after the club were relegated from Ligue 1 after finishing bottom of the table last season.
There were understood to be several clubs keen on signing him before the World Cup but interest has now increased significantly following his heroics over in Brazil, with the 28-year-old putting in a sensational Man of the Match display against hosts Brazil on Tuesday night.
The Express claim that Arsenal and Liverpool have had Ochoa on their radar for a while but his exploits in Brazil appear to have pushed them into action as the newspaper suggests that both clubs are now preparing to make contract offers to the goalkeeper.
However, it appears the duo face stiff competition from Monaco and although Ochoa has revealed he would be open to trying out another league, his priority is to remain in France and play for a Champions League club – which should put Monaco in the driving seat for his signature.
“My priority is to stay in France, but I am open to any propositions.
“I have improved in the last three years, most notably in handling the pace of games.
“But I was used to top competition when I played in Mexico. I now need to play in the Champions League to be sure of my level.” Ochoa is quoted as saying by the Express
Arsene Wenger is in the market for another goalkeeper after seeing Lukasz Fabianski leave for Swansea and Emiliano Viviano headed back to Italy following a year-long loan, and I’m sure the frugal Frenchman will be tempted by the fact Ochoa is available for nothing and judging by his performance last night, he’d push Wojceich Szczesny for the first team jersey.
Liverpool are also believed to be in the market for competition for Simon Mignolet but any move for another keeper is likely to be delayed until Pepe Reina’s future is resolved, with the Spaniard expected to leave the club on a permanent basis following a loan at Napoli last season.

Ochoa has certainly made himself one of the stars of the World Cup so far after a sensational performance against Brazil but with the player keen on staying in Ligue 1, the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool may find it difficult to persuade him to come to England if Monaco go in for him.
