Liverpool Set To Make €15m Bid For Argentinean Ace
Liverpool are lining-up a €15m bid for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo after watching him impress for Argentinean at the World Cup, according to reports.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Marcos Rojo.
Liverpool are lining-up a €15m bid for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo after seeing their move for Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno stall, according to reports today.
The Reds have been strongly linked with Moreno in recent weeks and are understood to have held lengthy discussions with Sevilla over a potential deal to bring the Spaniard to Anfield.
However, with the two clubs struggling to agree fee, it appears Brendan Rodgers has drawn up a list of alternatives with the Express suggesting the Northern Irishman is readying a €15m (£12m) bid for highly-rated left-back Marcos Rojo.
The newspaper claims that Liverpool have been tracking the 24-year-old for several months but with Rodgers desperate to bring in a dependable left-sided defender this summer, the Merseysiders are now stepping-up their interest to try and get a deal agreed with Sporting.
But the Reds are going to face stiff competition as Rojo has also been attracting interest from Barcelona and he’s previously admitted he’d jump at the chance to play alongside his compatriot Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp.
“Of course I’d like to play [with Messi], but to tell the truth, I haven’t spoken to Leo about it.
“I just know that I’ve performed well in the last year. We will see what happens after the World Cup.” Rojo is quoted as saying by the Express.
The Catalans are yet to formalise their interest so Liverpool could be considered as being in the driving seat at this time, particularly if they do go ahead and submit a formal €15m (£12m) bid as this report suggests.

Rojo is capable of playing in the center of defence but has made his name as a left-back and his adventurous displays down the flank for Argentina at the World Cup have drawn many plaudits. Rodgers will probably want him to offer competition to Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan at left-back, but his versatility will certainly appeal to the Liverpool boss.
