Barcelona Press Ahead With €100m Suarez Deal With Personal Terms Almost Agreed
Spanish giants Barcelona are pressing ahead with a sensational €100m deal for under-fire Liverpool striker Luis Suarez despite his latest biting controversy.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, the latest on Luis Suarez….
Barcelona are pressing ahead with a sensational €100m deal for under-fire Liverpool striker Luis Suarez despite his latest biting controversy, according to widespread reports today.
Barca and fellow Spanish giants Real Madrid were being strongly linked with a move for the 27-year-old this summer before the Uruguayan striker hit the headlines for biting defender Georgio Chiellini in the shoulder during Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Italy.
FIFA have since opened a disciplinary case against the striker and a six-person panel will view video footage and look at pictures of the incident today before making a final verdict, but Liverpool will be watching on closely with a lengthy international ban the minimum sentence expected to be handed out.
Some though this latest act of cannibalism would end any chance of Suarez heading for Spain this summer but the Mirror claim that although Madrid have now cooled their interest, Barcelona remain keen and are ready to tempt Liverpool with a mammoth €100m (£80m) bid that could involve Alexis Sanchez and/or Pedro as part of a player-plus-cash swap deal.
It remains to be seen how Liverpool will respond when the Catalans formalise their interest, but the Express are reporting that Barcelona are already close to agreeing personal terms with Suarez so all that remains is for them to strike a deal with the Merseysiders.
Speculation in the newspapers has heavily linked Sanchez with a move to Anfield this summer so the Chilean attacker is likely to be of interest to Rodgers if he does entertain a player swap deal in exchange for the troubled forward.
Liverpool have remained silent so far as they deliberate their next move, but the Mirror suggests this could be the final straw for the Reds hierarchy and they may be willing to cash in on their star man should Barca put forward a sufficient deal.
Liverpool gave Suarez a very blunt warning following the Branislav Ivanovic bite and the feeling is they won’t be prepared to defend his this time around, which does suggest they may be ready to sell at the right price.
It’s an intriguing situation and certainly one Brendan Rodgers could have done without. Suarez appeared to be a reformed character as his 31 goals led Liverpool to their best finish in several years with the club narrowly missing out on the Premier League title last season.
