Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has shared a picture from his hospital bed after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.
The 32-year-old damaged ankle ligaments after twisting his ankle in training earlier this week and new boss Louis van Gaal confirmed the injury during his first press conference on Thursday afternoon.
Carrick underwent surgery on Thursday morning to determine the full extent of the problem and the club confirmed yesterday that the midfielder is now facing 10-12 weeks on the sidelines.
‘Michael Carrick has had surgery on a left ankle ligament injury this morning. He will be out for 10-12 weeks’. a club statement read
Understandably, this isn’t the ideal start to life under a new boss and Carrick has shared a photo (above) from his hospital bed along with a caption saying: “Well I’ve had better days….very frustrating but my race to get fit has started”.
Carrick will now have to sit and watch on as United get used to life under van Gaal, and the Dutchman is expected to bring in midfield reinforcements following the set-back, so the former England ace may have a fight on his hands to regain his first team place when he’s back in contention.
