Spanish Legend Wants To Join Arsenal This Summer
Iker Casillas wants Real Madrid to allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer and he has his eye on a sensational move to Arsenal, according to reports
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news on Iker Casillas.
Iker Casillas wants Real Madrid to allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer and he has his eye on a sensational move to Arsenal, according to reports today.
The Spanish number one has endured a difficult last 18 months after losing his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven to Diego Lopez. The 33-year-old was ever-present in the Champions League as Madrid lifted their 10th European Cup in May, but he failed to make a single La Liga appearance last season and was at fault for several goals during a Spain’s disastrous World Cup defence this summer.
Casillas was strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu during the last two transfer windows and fresh doubts have been cast over his future after Madrid agreed a deal to sign Costa Rica No.1 Keylor Navas.
Arsenal have long been linked with the Madrid legend and the Daily Mail are now citing reports coming from Spanish outlet El Confidential who claim that Casillas wants a new challenge and has asked Madrid officials to cancel the remaining year of his lucrative contract to allow him to complete a free transfer move to the Emirates.
It remains to be seen how much truth there is in these reports but Arsene Wneger would certainly have an interesting decision to make if Casillas does fancy a move to north London.
The boss is currently on the look-out for a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski following his free transfer switch to Swansea City and we’ve been strongly linked with a number of keepers in recent weeks, with the latest being Colombian number one David Ospina.
Obviously we’d have to sit up and take notice if a player like Casillas shows an interest in joining the club as despite his recent troubles, he’s been arguably the best goalkeeper in the world over the last decade and you don’t lose talent like that overnight.

However, so far Wenger has been linked with keepers who wouldn’t necessarily mind being a number two behind Szczesny and I really don’t see Casillas being content swapping the Madrid bench for the Arsenal one, so if he did come here he’ll expect to be first choice. Is Arsene prepared to drop Szczesny after an excellent season? I highly doubt it, so despite his apparent interest, it’s difficult to see how Casillas will end up joining Arsenal this summer.
