Arsene Wenger Confirms Colombian International Will Join Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina is due to sign for Arsenal this summer and challenge Wojceich Szczesny for the No.1 shirt
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us quotes from Arsene Wenger.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Colombian international goalkeeper David Ospina is due to sign for Arsenal this summer and challenge Wojceich Szczesny for the No.1 shirt, according to ESPN.
Ospina has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates this summer and reports earlier this week claimed that we were on the verge of completing a deal after agreeing a £3.5m fee with his current club Nice.
It was also reported that Arsenal had handed the 25-year-old a four-year contract worth £60,000-a-week and the keeper would undergo a medical and seal his move to north London when he returns from holiday next week.
It turns out the speculation in the newspapers is accurate as Arsene Wenger has now admitted to the press today that Ospina is heading to Arsenal this summer and although he will begin the season as back-up for Szczesny, he will take the first team jersey if he proves he deserves it.
The boss told ESPN.
“You know at the start Szczensy will be the No. 1, then again we’ll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play,”
So there you have it from the horses mouth – Arsenal have all-but wrapped up their third signing of the summer and I think it’s an excellent signing for the club.
After Lukasz Fabianski left we needed to bring in a reliable goalkeeper to push Szczesny for the No.1 shirt and in Ospina, we’ve certainly got that. He proved at the World Cup what a fine goalkeeper he is and I fully expect him to be our keeper in the domestic cups and really challenge for the first team this season.

It looks like the deal will be officially completed sometime next week once he’s undergone his medical and he’ll join fellow new signings Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy in linking up with the rest of the squad ahead of next weekends Emirates Cup where they should all make their debuts.
