Arsenal Fear Key €29m Target Has Agreed Deal To Join Chelsea
Arsenal fear key transfer target Sami Khedira has already agreed to join Jose Mourinho at rivals Chelsea on a free transfer next summer, according to reports.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal could miss out on Sami Khedira to Chelsea.
Arsenal are worried that key transfer target Sami Khedira has already agreed to join Jose Mourinho at rivals Chelsea on a free transfer next summer, according to reports.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for Khedira this summer with boss Arsene Wenger believed to have made the German international a key target as he looks to bring in a new central midfielder this summer.
Widespread reports have suggested the north Londoners have held talks with Real Madrid over a €29m (£24m) deal to bring the midfielder to the Emirates but any potential move has appeared to stall over the 27-year-old’s excessive wage demands.
Now, fresh reports from the Daily Star claim that Arsenal fear Khedira has agreed to run down the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and make a free transfer move to Chelsea next summer.
Jose Mourinho used to manage the midfielder during his time at Madrid and the newspaper claims the Portuguese coach is keen to be reunited with the player at Stamford Bridge, and picking him up for nothing would be a major coup for the club.
It would also give Chelsea room to offer the kind of wages Khedira is looking for and allow Mourinho time to re-shape his squad with the West Londoners currently struggling to accommodate any more non-homegrown players.
Obviously it would be a huge blow to Arsenal if they were to see Khedira join their rivals but the good thing for Wenger is Madrid are unlikely to allow him to see-out his last year without a fight. The Spaniard’s won’t want to see such a valuable asset walk away for free so unless Khedira signs an extension this summer, we should expect the European champions to try and cash-in which would put Arsenal in a strong position as they have ample funds available and room to bring in another non-homegrown player.
