Arsenal Handed Boost In Pursuit Of £16m-Rated Serbian International
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of £16m-rated defender Matija Nastasic with reports claiming that Man City have now put the Serb up for sale.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal being boosted in their pursuit of Man City’s Matija Nastasic.
Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of £16m-rated defender Matija Nastasic with reports claiming that Manchester City have now put the Serb up for sale.
Boss Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen as the Belgian international is expected to leave after losing his place as a first team regular, and speculation last month suggested that the Frenchman was eyeing a shock move for £16m-rated youngster Nastasic.
It looks like we’ve now been handed a timely boost with Italian outlet TuttoSport claiming that City are ready to cash in on the 21-year-old to the highest bidder to help make room for the imminent arrival of Eliaquim Mangala from Porto.
Arsenal are understood to have been tracking the Serbian international since his days at Fiorentina and Wenger is keen to offer him the chance to remain in the Premier League and act as back-up for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
However, it looks like we’ll face some stiff competition for his signature as the report states that Juventus and Inter Milan are among the clubs who are also showing a keen interest in luring the young defender back to Serie A.
Nastasic arrived at the Eithad Stadium in 2012 with a reputation as one of the best up-and-coming defenders in Europe and he lived up to that tag during his debut season in the Premier League before injury restricted him to just 13 league appearances last year.

His injury problems would be a concern but there’s no doubt he’s a huge talent, so if we could keep him fit he’d be an excellent third choice option for the club, but it remains to be seen whether City would be willing to do business with a domestic rival and I’m sure Manuel Pellegrini would rather sell abroad if he had the choice.
