Arsenal Set To Make Move For Olympiakos Ace
Arsenal are ready to make a move for highly-rated Olympiakos centre-back Kostas Manolas as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Kostas Manolas.
Arsenal are ready to make a move for Olympiakos centre-back Kostas Manolas as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, according to reports.
We desperately need to sign another defender after selling Vermaelen to Barcelona over the weekend as we currently only have Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and youngster Calum Chambers to choose from in the middle of defence.
Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but Manolas has emerged as a potential target and the Express claim Wenger is set to step up his interest in the Greek international.
Manolas was hugely impressive at the World Cup and enjoyed an excellent debut season with Olympiakos following his free transfer move from AEK Athens last summer, with the 23-year-old playing a key role in his side cruising to the Greek Super League title – conceding just 19 goals along the way.
He’s been linked with the likes of Juventus, Roma and Napoli in recent weeks, but the Express suggest that Arsenal are now ready to try and lure the defender to England before the end of the month.
There is little doubt we need to bring in another centre-back and it’s slightly worrying that we’re going to head into the start of the new season with such limited options at the back. Per Mertesacker isn’t match fit having only just returned to training following his World Cup exploits, so we’re going to have to rely on Koscielny and new-boy Chambers staying fit.

Manolas would be an excellent addition and he’s still young, so has plenty of time to develop even further under the tutelage of Wenger, so lets hope we can get a deal agreed with Olympiakos and bring him to North London sooner rather than later.
