Liverpool To Make Move For €64m-Rated Hitman If Falcao Bid Fails
Liverpool will turn their attention to Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani if their bid to land Radamel Falcao fails, according to reports in Germany.
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani.
Liverpool will turn their attention to Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani if their bid to land Radamel Falcao fails, according to reports in Germany.
Brendan Rodgers has already admitted he wants to bring in a top class striker before the close of the transfer window. The Merseysiders still have a sizeable transfer kitty left over, despite signing seven players this summer, with a replacement for Luis Suarez a priority.
The Reds have brought in Rickie Lambert from Southampton but with all due respect, the 32-year-old can not be considered a replacement for Suarez, so it’s understandable Rodgers is still in the market for another front man.
“The money is there. We will try to help us improve until the end of the transfer window and to undertake a top player,”
“It is not easy to get a top striker., But we know that we absolutely need one. Behind the scenes we are working hard to see what the available players might be interesting for us.” Rodgers is quoted as saying by Bild.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested the Northern Irishman has identified Falcao as a potential target with Monaco understood to be open to letting the Colombian hitman leave the club as part of cost-cutting measures.
A loan deal has therefore been suggested but there are some rather large stumbling blocks that could scupper any potential move to Anfield from taking place. Firstly, Liverpool are likely to struggle to meet Falcao’s huge wage demands while reports also indicate that Juventus are posing a real threat to their hopes of luring him to England.
This has led to Rodgers drawing up a list of alternatives and while Samuel Eto’o is understood to be considered as a last resort, German publication Bild claim that Rodgers will first turn his attention to Cavani if he fails to land Falcao.
The Uruguayan international has been hotly tipped to leave PSG this summer after admitting back in April that he wasn’t happy playing out wide and some reports have suggested the Ligue 1 champions would be willing to cash in for €64m (£51m), as his exit would pave the way for Laurent Blanc’s side to finally complete a deal for Real Madrid attacker Angel Di Maria. So Liverpool could have more luck signing the former Napoli man should their attempts to sign Falcao during the next two weeks fail.

Either player would obviously be welcomed with open arms by the Anfield faithful as they are world class strikers, but it’s going to be interesting to see if Rodgers is able to get a deal done before the close of the window. The club have built a strong squad but the addition of a player like Cavani or Falcao could be the difference in making them genuine title contenders this season.
