Liverpool Set To Make Surprise Late Move For Another Exciting Attacker
Liverpool are set to make a late bid for Bayern Munich attacker Xherdan Shaqiri after learning that Atletico Madrid have made an approach for the player.
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are set to make an offer for Xherdan Shaqiri.
Liverpool are set to make a surprise late bid for Bayern Munich attacker Xherdan Shaqiri after learning that Atletico Madrid have made an approach for the player, according to reports.
The Reds were strongly linked with a move for Shaqiri earlier in the summer when Brendan Rodgers was understood to be desperate to lure the Swiss international to Anfield.
The Northern Irishman was forced to turn his attention elsewhere after Bayern refused to do business, and the Liverpool supremo has since signed attackers like Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana.
However, the Express claim that Rodgers has continued to keep a close eye on the 22-year-old’s situation and is now ready to make a move after learning that Atletico Madrid have approached Bayern about the attackers availability.
The La Liga champions have already signed Mario Mandzukic from the German giants and it appears Diego Simeone is keen for Shaqiri to follow the striker to the Vicente Calderon.
While Munich chiefs have previously indicated they weren’t going to allow Shaqiri to leave this summer, the newspaper suggests that that could change after the player made it known that he wasn’t happy with his lack of first team action.
Shaqiri only joined Bayern in 2012 after he made a move from FC Basel but he’s struggled to establish himself at the Allianz Arena and made just 17 appearances last season, with many of those coming from the substitutes bench.

He’s no doubt a huge talent and would prove to be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad if they were able to lure him to Anfield, but it’s something of a surprise to hear the Reds wants another attacker and it would be interesting to see where Rodgers would see him fitting in.
The youngster is predominantly a right-winger but can play anywhere across the attacking positions so would give Rodgers plenty of options in the final third, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll be able to agree a deal with Bayern or beat Atletico to his signature if the Germans agree to sell.
