Liverpool have snapped up Spain Under-17 international Madger Antoio Gomes Aju from Villarreal, according to reports.
Madger has made only a handful of appearances for Villarreal’s B team – who play in the Segunda Division B Group Three – but he’s clearly shown enough potential to persuade Brendan Rodgers and his staff to bring him to Anfield.
The Liverpool Echo claim that the youngster had just one year left on his youth contract at Villarreal and had failed to agree terms on an extension, so the La Liga club were forced to do a deal now rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.
It’s not clear how much Liverpool have paid but it will likely be nothing more than minor compensation, and the 17-year-old is now expected to link-up with the Reds Academy once he receives international clearance and will play for the Under-21 and Under-18 sides.
The teenager took to Twitter to confirm the news, posting a picture of him in his new Liverpool training kit.

Madger is a left-footed midfielder who has already played for Spain’s Under-17 side and is a contemporary of Sergi Canos and Pedro Chirivella – who both made the move to Anfield last year.
Brendan Rodgers has been extremely busy this summer re-shaping his first team by bringing in a whole host of big-money signings including the likes of Mario Balotelli, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Lazar Markovic, but it’s good to see the Northern Irishman is still keeping an eye on the clubs youth set-up as well.
