Player To Have Medical After Liverpool Agree Personal Terms Over Free Transfer Move
Victor Valdes is set to undergo a medical with Liverpool after agreeing personal terms over a free transfer move to Anfield, according to reports.
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool close in on Victor Valdes.
Victor Valdes is set to undergo a medical with Liverpool after agreeing personal terms over a free transfer move to Anfield, according to reports.
The summer transfer window officially closed at 11pm on Monday night but clubs are still able to sign free agents and Valdes is currently unattached after having his contract at Barcelona terminated by mutual consent ahead of a proposed move to Monaco.
The deal to take the Spanish international to Ligue 1 fell through due to concerns over the 32-year-old’s fitness, as Valdes is currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury that he picked up back in March.
Reports on Wednesday claimed that Liverpool were in negotiations with the keeper about a potential move to Merseyside and it appears those talks have gone well as reports in Spain suggest that the two parties have agreed terms over a two-year contract.
The Metro claim that the Reds will now put Valdes through an intense medical before any deal will be finalised, but Brendan Rodgers has left space for the Spaniard in the 25-man squad that he submitted to the Premier League this week.
It’s not clear when Valdes will undergo his medical, as he’s not expected to be fully fit until December, but if he’s able to prove his fitness it looks like he’s set to become Liverpool’s tenth signing of the summer and will challenge Simon Mignolet for the number 1 jersey.
Valdes will bring with him a wealth of experience as he was on the books at Barcelona for over 10 years and made over 500 appearances for the Catalans, winning three Champions League’s and six La Liga titles in the process, so he’s going to provide some stiff competition to Mignolet for the first team spot.
