Man Utd To Make Rival Move For €25m-Rated Arsenal Target
Man Utd will battle Arsenal for the signature of Marco Reus with reports claiming that Louis van Gaal is eyeing a January swoop for the Borussia Dortmund ace.
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Manchester United are set to rival Arsenal for Marco Reus.
Manchester United are set to battle Arsenal for the signature of Marco Reus with reports claiming that Louis van Gaal is eyeing a January swoop for the Borussia Dortmund attacker.
Reus has cemented himself as one of the best attackers in Europe after two excellent seasons at Dortmund, where the winger has scored 42 goals in 90 appearances after making a move from Borussia Mönchengladbach back in 2012.
His future at the Westfalenstadion is uncertain due to a buy-out clause in his contract which kicks in next summer that will allow him to leave for just €25m (£20m) – which represents an absolute bargain in today’s over inflated market for a player of his quality.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old in recent months with reports earlier this week suggesting that Arsene Wenger had already made it clear to Dortmund that he was prepared to pay the required fee to trigger the players buy-out clause next summer.
However, it looks like the Gunners may now face some stiff competition as the Metro are citing reports from the Telegraph that claim Manchester United are plotting a move or their own with Louis van Gaal ready to sanction a bid for the attacking midfielder as early as January.
The newspaper suggests that United may try and tempt Dortmund into cashing-in during the winter window by tabling an offer above Reus’ buy-out figure, as van Gaal looks set to continue his extraordinary spending spree at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman has already splashed out around £150m during the summer on top class signings like Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao but it appears the spending isn’t going to stop their with Reus next on the former champions hit-list.
It remains to be seen how Arsenal would react if United did make a formal move for the German international in January, but it could force Wenger into bringing forward his plans to try and lure the player to the Emirates.
It would be a major coup if either club could land him as Reus will surely be one of the most sought-after players on the planet next summer due to his €25m buy-out clause, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Dortmund were tempted to sell early if the player doesn’t sign a new deal over the course of the next few months.
