Arsenal are anxiously awaiting further news on Jack Wilshere after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury during Tuesday nights 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Wilshere was one of the few Arsenal players to emerge with any sort of credit from the game after putting in a spirited display as the hosts dominated throughout and deservedly came away with the three points.
However, speaking to Arsenal.com after the match, boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that Wilshere had turned his ankle and although the injury doesn’t seem too serious, the Frenchman is playing it cautious due to the 23-year-old’s injury record.
Wenger told the clubs website:
Jack Wilshere has turned his ankle, it’s difficult to say how bad it is because I am a bit cautious, normally it’s not very bad but because of his history I’m a bit cautious. Apart from that no player I took off was injured.
The incident occurred during the closing stages of the game when Wilshere appeared to go down clutching his ankle. He completed the full ninety minutes but walked gingerly off the pitch at the final whistle and now the club are sweating on finding out if he’s suffered any serious damage.
Wilshere has been plagued by ankle injuries over the past two years so it’s easy to see why Wenger is being cautious, but fingers crossed it’s nothing serious as another injury is the last thing we need.
The manager is already without the services of Olivier Giroud and Matheiu Debuchy to long-term injuries, Theo Walcott is still working his way back to full fitness while Nacho Monreal, Yaya Sanogo, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Flamini all missed last nights game with minor problems.
