Arsenal Star Confirms He Could Need Surgery After Posting Grim Injury Update
Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has taken to his Facebook page to give an update on his injury situation. See what the Frenchman has had to say here.
Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has taken to his Facebook page to give an update on his injury situation.
The 29-year-old was forced off late on during our 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday afternoon after catching his studs in the ground.
Arsene Wenger’s initial prognosis was a badly sprained ankle but it soon became apparent that the injury was worse than first feared, with reports suggesting the Frenchman could be out for between two-to-three months.
Debuchy has now posted an update on his Facebook page and has confirmed the bad news that he’s ‘broken’ a ligament in his ankle and he revealed he’ll find out on Friday if surgery will be required.
‘No fracture but one broken ligament… I have to wait until Friday in order to know if I must have surgery.’ Debuchy wrote on Facebook
Debuchy has settled well following his summer move from Newcastle so obviously this news comes as a huge blow for the club, and it looks like the right-back is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
In Debuchy’s absence, Arsene Wenger will have to decide how best to fill the void with Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin fighting it out for the right-back slot.
Chambers is arguably the favourite but considering he is also our third-choice centre-back, it would be a huge risk to play him regularly on the right as any injury to the 19-year-old would leave us short in the middle of defence.
