Arsenal Set To Open Formal Talks Over January Move For €7m Midfielder
Arsenal are looking to open formal talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a January move for €7m-rated midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to reports today
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news on Arsenal’s interest in PSG’s Adrien Rabiot.
Arsenal are looking to open formal talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a January move for €7m-rated midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to reports.
Rabiot was expected to leave the Parc des Prince this summer after rejecting a new contract and with just one year remaining on his current deal, PSG were understood to be keen to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.
The 19-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer while Roma were also believed to have been in negotiations over a potential switch to Italy.
However, a move failed to materialist and the French youngster ended up staying at PSG but it looks as though we’re ready to renew our interest when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal chiefs are eager to enter formal talks with the French champions as Arsene Wenger looks to finally bring in a versatile defensive-minded player to his squad.
Rabiot is predominantly a defensive midfielder but is also capable of playing at centre-back if required, so he’d fill two areas that we certainly need to fill. The newspaper suggests that PSG would be willing to do business at around €7m (£5.6m) but it remains to be seen whether we’ll be prepared to match that figure.
The French under-21 international has been with PSG since joining the club in 2010 and was expected to go on to become a key player for the French outfit, but he’s grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of first team football with the likes of Thiago Motta, Blaise Matuidi, Marco Verratti and Yohan Cabaye all above him in Laurent Blanc’s pecking order.
A move looks inevitable but it’s just down to whether Arsenal, or another club such as Roma, are able to agree a deal to sign him this winter or wait until next summer when he’ll be available for nothing.
I’d personally love to see us bring him in in January as we desperately need another option in midfield and the fact he could also play at the back makes him a tempting proposition.
