Liverpool edged into the fourth round of the Capital One Cup after a dramatic 14-13 penalty shootout victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield on Tuesday night after the game had ended 2-2.

The hosts got off to the perfect start when youngster Jordan Rossiter opened the scoring 10 minutes into his debut but Boro hit back and levelled things up at 1-1 midway through the second half when Reach headed home the equaliser to force extra-time.

Liverpool regained the lead when Suso was on hand to fire home a loose ball but there was drama in the final seconds as Raheem Sterling’s stray pass resulted in Kolo Toure giving away a stoppage time penalty. Bamford made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-2 and force penalties.

It was to be a memorable shootout as Liverpool eventually ran-out 14-13 victors after Adomah had missed his spot kick in front of the Kop.
