Liverpool Linked With Audacious Move For €40m Hitman
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering an audacious swoop for €40m-rated Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports today.
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with a move for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuian.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is considering an audacious swoop for €40m-rated Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.
After pushing Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race last season, the Merseysiders have started this campaign extremely poorly, losing three of their opening five games which included a 3-1 defeat to West Ham last weekend.
Central to Liverpool’s problems has been a lack of firepower up front with Daniel Sturridge missing the last three weeks with a thigh injury while Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli are yet to get off the mark in the league following their moves from Southampton and AC Milan respectively.
This has meant the Reds have scored just 7 goals in their first five games this season, which is in stark contract to last term when Luis Suarez inspired them to scoring over 100 goals in the league, and it looks like Rodgers could be contemplating adding to his strike-force.
Reports today are claiming that the Northern Irishman is considering an audacious swoop for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain – who is being linked with a move away from Serie A after a disappointing start to the new season.
The Argentine only moved to Naples last summer from Real Madrid and enjoyed an excellent debut season in Italy, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions.
However, his form has dipped this campaign with the striker yet to get off the mark in Serie A, leading to speculation the 26-year-old could be on the move and it appears Liverpool could be ready to offer him a fresh start in England.
Higuain would certainly offer the Reds a real goal threat up front if he was to make the move to Anfield but I personally don’t see Rodgers agreeing to pay the €40m it would reportedly take to persuade Napoli to cash in. Plus, it’s difficult to see where another top striker would fit in when you consider Liverpool already have Sturridge and Balotelli on the books.
