Wenger’s No.1 January Target Revealed As Arsenal Prepare To Splash The Cash
Arsene Wenger has made Morgan Schneiderlin his number one transfer target after being told he’s free to splash the cash in January by the Arsenal board
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Morgan Schneiderlin.
Arsene Wenger has made Morgan Schneiderlin his number one transfer target after being told he’s free to splash the cash in January by the Arsenal board, according to reports today.
We’ve endured our worst start to a season in Wenger’s 18-year reign following Saturday’s disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Hull, which made it just two wins from our opening eight games this term.
Understandably, fans have been pointing the finger at the manager after he failed to bring in a defensive midfielder or another centre-back in the summer, with our lack of depth and quality in both positions certainly costing us already this season.
However, it looks like Wenger is ready to rectify things when the transfer window re-opens in January as the Mirror claim he has made Morgan Schneiderlin his number one target after being handed an ‘open cheque book’ by the club.
The French holding midfielder had a superb campaign last year which led to interest from both Arsenal and Tottenham but Southampton refused to sell after already letting the likes of Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren leave.
Schneiderlin has continued his fine form this season and it looks like Wenger is ready to make a renewed attempt to lure him away from Saint Mary’s this winter in a bid to solve our obvious deficiencies in the defensive midfield role.
The 24-year-old wont come cheap though as the Mirror suggest he’ll be valued at around £25m, but if we can agree a deal with the Saints then Schneiderlin is likely to jump at the chance of making the move after going public with his desire to leave in the summer in search of Champions League football.
I said many times during the summer months that Schneiderlin would be the perfect foil in front of the defence as he’s got that all-important Premier League experience and has been outstanding for Southampton over the past two years.

However, Ronald Koeman’s men have made an excellent start to the season and if that continues up until the New Year, then it will be difficult to see them agreeing to sell one of their star men, even if we do try and tempt them with a £25m offer.
