Arsenal Step-Up Interest In €15m Liverpool Target Ahead Of Possible January Move
Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Liverpool target Christoph Kramer ahead of a potential January move for the €15m-rated midfielder, so say reports.
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Liverpool target Christoph Kramer.
Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Liverpool target Christoph Kramer ahead of a potential January move for the €15m-rated midfielder, according to reports.
Kramer caught the eye with some impressive displays at the World Cup and he featured in the final for Germany against Argentina before being forced off with concussion following a nasty blow to the head.
The 23-year-old earned his place in Joachim Low’s 23-man squad for Brazil 2014 after playing a key role in helping Borussia Monchengladbach finish in fifth place in the Bundesliga table last season.
He’s continued his excellent form this term which has led to speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League with the likes of Liverpool reportedly interested in offering him a new start here in England.
With the futures of Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva uncertain at Anfield, it appears Brendan Rodgers is on the look-out for a new defensive midfielder and Kramer would be a useful addition to the Merseysiders squad.
However, it seems Liverpool will now face stiff competition from Arsenal with Goal.com claiming that Arsene Wenger’s scouts have been impressed with Kramer after watching him several times already this season.
The report suggests the Gunners could now launch a move for the German international in the January window as Wenger looks to finally bring in the mobile holding midfielder that the fans have been crying out for having missed out on a number of targets in the summer.
However, a deal isn’t going to be straight-forward as Kramer is currently in the second season of a two-year loan at Monchengladbach and while reports state that his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen, may be prepared to cash-in for around €15m (£12.5m) this winter, Monchengladbach are likely to demand the player sees out the final six months of his loan deal.
It’s not known whether Leverkusen have the power to cut short the loan but Kramer has made it clear he will make the final decision over who he plays for.
“In general, being involved in the football business is often like modern human trafficking,”
“But for me, a contract can say whatever it wants. If I don’t want to play somewhere next season, I won’t play there. In the end, I will still decide where I play.” Kramer is quoted as saying by Goal
Kramer joined Leverkusen as a youngster but after coming through the youth ranks, he’s spent the last four seasons out on loan and is yet to play a single game for their first team, so it appears he has no long-term future at the club and may be willing to take a new challenge elsewhere.

Whether the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool would be willing to wait until the summer to secure a transfer if a deal can’t be done in January remains to be seen, but Kramer would certainly be an excellent signing for either club so he might just be worth the wait.
