Arsenal slumped to a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat at St Mary’s with two defensive blunders gifting Southampton a valuable three points.
Here are my ratings:
Szczesny 3/10 | Was at fault for both goals and looked shakey all afternoon. He seems to have this kind of performance in him, which is a worry.
Debuchy 6/10 | Partly at fault for the second goal as he should just have cleared his lines but did prevent a third with a goal-line clearance.
Mertesacker 5/10 | Should have anticipated the Mane shot and got back on the line quicker. Was caught out a couple of other times too.
Koscielny 5.5/10 | Not at his best. Mane got the better of him for the first goal and he didn’t look himself at all.
Gibbs 6/10 | Offered very little going forward as his crossing was disappointing. Steady at the back though.
Coquelin 7/10 | Another encouraging display. He covered ground quickly, tackled well and passing was assured.
Chambers 6/10 | Kept things simple in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role.
Oxlade-Chamberlain 6.5/10 | Was a danger when he ran at the hosts defence but wasn’t able to create anything of note.
Cazorla 6.5/10 | Wasted a golden chance to open the scoring. Showed some good feet at times but little end product.
Rosicky 6/10 | Worked hard and put himself about but little else.
Alexis 6.5/10 | Had a decent shot well saved by Forster when it was still 1-0. A little isolated up front.
Subs:
Walcott 5/10 | Saw little of the ball since coming on for Chambers with 30 minutes to go.
Akpom N/A | Only on for five minutes.
