Wenger Rules Out Move For Chelsea Ace + Opens Up On Potential £64m Isco Swoop
Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for Chelsea keeper Petr Cech while he also denied speculation linking him with a big-money move for Real Madrid attacker Isco
With the January transfer now open for business, managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsene Wenger speaks out on interest in Petr Cech and Isco….
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech while he also denied speculation linking him with a big-money move for Real Madrid attacker Isco.
Speculation in recent days has claimed that the Gunners boss is on the look out for a new No.1 after growing increasingly frustrated with Wojciech Szczesny’s inconsistent displays, with the Polish youngster supposedly reprimanded after being caught smoking in the dressing room after his two errors led to Arsenal’s 2-0 loss at Southampton.
With Cech expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after falling behind Thibaut Courtois in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, reports have suggested that Wenger was eyeing up a swoop for the 32-year-old.
However, speaking at his press conference this morning, Wenger categorically denied his interest, insisting he isn’t planning on bringing in another goalkeeper as he feels he already has three ‘top class’ stoppers at his disposal.
Wenger told Arsenal.com when asked about Cech:
No, Petr Cech is at Chelsea. We have three goalkeepers who for me are top class and there is a big competition going on. I have no doubt we have the needed quality.
Reports in the media have also linked Wenger with a sensational move for Real Madrid attacker Isco, with the Daily Star claiming that Arsenal chiefs were lining-up a £64m move for the Spanish international.
However, once again Wenger has distanced himself from these reports and insists he has no plans to strengthen his attack as he already has adequate cover in that department.
When asked about his interest in Isco, Wenger told the clubs website:
No, we are not on the case. We have plenty of creative players. We are more short on the defensive side of our game, not on the offensive side. We have plenty of offensive players. We just spoke about Podolski who just went out, we spoke about Sanogo going out because we have so many offensive players that they don’t get a chance to play. So we won’t buy someone else in the attack.
So, despite all the speculation in the newspapers, it looks as though Arsenal fans can forget about signing a new goalkeeper or another attacker this month.

A centre-back and defensive midfielder remain the priorities for Arsene Wenger so I wouldn’t expect any other type of player to arrive at the Emirates during the January transfer window.
