Manchester United are planning to make a big-money move for Edinson Cavani this summer and hope to fend off interest from Arsenal to land the €80m-rated striker
With the January transfer now open for business, managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Arsenal target Edinson Cavani…
Manchester United are planning to make a big-money move for Edinson Cavani this summer and hope to fend off interest from Arsenal to land the €80m-rated striker, according to reports today.
Cavani’s future at Paris Saint-Germain has come under increasing doubt in recent weeks after he was disciplined for arriving back late from the winter break which meant he missed the clubs mid-season training camp in Morocco.
The Argentinean international was subsequently left out of the squad for PSG’s French Cup win over Montpellier last Monday and Laurent Blanc has confirmed the striker will once again be left out against Bastia later this evening with the French boss claiming he’s shown a “total lack of respect towards the club”.
There have also been reports throughout the course of his stay at the Parc des Princes which suggest Cavani is unhappy at having to play out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic through the middle and is keen to leave the club.
The uncertainty has led to speculation linking Arsenal with a move for the former Napoli hitman but it seems the Gunners will now face stiff competition as the Daily Star are claiming that Manchester United are plotting a big-money move to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature this summer.
The newspaper cites French source Le10 Sport as stating that United are unlikely to make Radamel Falcao’s loan move from Monaco permanent so they plan to open formal negotiations over a potential €80m (£62m) move for Cavani at the end of the season.
Louis van Gaal has spent heavily in the transfer market since arriving at Old Trafford and that spending is expected to continue in the summer with Cavani seemingly emerging as a key target.

The news will be a blow to Arsenal as although Arsene Wenger has loosened the purse strings of late, the North Londoners will struggle to match the financial muscle of United if it becomes a bidding war.
Either way, whether Cavani ends up at Arsenal or United, it would be great to see him plying his trade in the Premier League and I think he has all the attributes to be a big hit on these shores. I doubt any move will happen in January but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Argentine move-on this summer with a switch to England a real possibility.
