Arsenal look to have been handed a major boost with Arsene Wenger confirming that Jack Wilshere is on course to return from his ankle injury well ahead of schedule.
Wilshere has been on the sidelines since suffering yet another ankle injury during our 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates back on November 28 following a late tackle from Paddy McNair.
The injury required surgery and the 23-year-old was initially ruled out of action for between three-to-four months, which meant he wasn’t expected to be back playing again until sometime in March.
However, Wenger has now confirmed that the midfielder is ‘progressing well’ and he could be available again by the end of February.
“Jack is progressing quicker than expected – he could be back by the end of February,” Wenger told reporters.
This is of course excellent news and if Wilshere continues to recover ahead of schedule, then he may even be able to play some part in our Champions League last-16 first leg clash with Monaco at the Emirates on February 25th.
Jack’s career has been blighted by various ankle problems and his latest injury came at a time when he was starting to find his form for both club and country, so hopefully he can get back to that level quickly once he returns to action.
We’ve endured another torrid season on the injury front and just as it looked like we were getting our squad back together following the return to fitness of Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott, Mathieu Debuchy is now facing more time on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder yesterday while Kieran Gibbs is struggling with an inflamed ankle.
