With the January transfer set to open for business, managers are getting ready to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal close in on the signing of Krystian Bielik….
Arsenal are closing in on making their first signing of the January window after agreeing a fee in the region of €3m with Legia Warsaw for midfielder Krystian Bielik, according to the Guardian.
We’ve been strongly linked with the 17-year-old in recent weeks and are believed to have already had bids worth €1.5m and €2m rejected by Legia.
However, with Hamburg also entering the race, reports last night claimed that we’d sent chief transfer negotiator Dick Law over to Poland on Tuesday to hold face-to-face talks and thrash out a deal.
It appears those negotiations have gone well as the Guardian are now reporting that our third bid of €3m (£2.4m) plus add ons was accepted this afternoon and a deal is now understood to be close to completion.
The newspaper also suggests that Bielik will join Arsenal immediately, rather than being loaned back to Legia for the rest of the season – as the Polish club had previously requested.
So it looks as though we’re on the verge of sealing our first signing of the January window, and although Bielik may not be the big-money signing that many fans are craving, he’s a talented youngster whose got a huge future ahead of him.
The 6ft 2in defensive midfielder has broken into the Legia first team this season and is tipped to soon become a full international for Poland having already represented his nation at Under-18 level.

However, as talented as Bielik is, I don’t think we’ll see him making an impact on the first team anytime soon, so hopefully Wenger has some more established targets in mind for the closing stages of the January window.
