Star Speaks Out On Future Amid Reports Of €60m Move To Arsenal Or Man Utd
Mats Hummels has refused to commit his long-term future to Borussia Dortmund amid reports of a possible €60m move to Arsenal or Manchester United.
With the January transfer now open for business, managers are strengthening their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Mats Hummels speaks out on his future….
Mats Hummels has refused to commit his long-term future to Borussia Dortmund amid reports of a possible €60m move to Arsenal or Manchester United.
Hummel’s future at the Westfalenstadion has been thrown into doubt in recent months after Dortmund’s terrible start to the season that sees them currently sit in the bottom three of the Bundesliga table at the mid-way point of the campaign.
Understandably he’s attracting interest and Arsenal and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the German international in recent weeks, with both Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal making him a top target as they look to strengthen their defences this winter.
Reports just last week suggested that United were ‘confident’ of beating the Gunners to Hummels signature and believed they could persuade Dortmund to cash-in for €60m (£47m) this month.
The 26-year-old has now responded to the speculation by reminding everyone that, despite receiving many offers to leave over the years, he’s chosen to remain loyal to Dortmund and is only concentrating on improving his form during the second half of the season.
“I am not really known as a globetrotter,” Hummels said. “I have been with two clubs in 26 years. Loyalty is important to me.
“The only thing I am concerned with right now is to play better than in the first half of the season. I was not satisfied at all with myself as one can imagine.
“I have gotten offers from different clubs ever since I have been with Dortmund. That’s not a secret. I have always decided not to leave.” Hummels told Sky Sports
However, the German international went on to hint that he may contemplate a move at some point as he failed to commit his long-term future to Dortmund, and says he wants to make ‘good decisions’ in his career.
“I think I have made some good decisions and I want to make those in the future as well.
“I have never said I will stay until 2024 or 2030 or whenever… but I have stayed until today. I will stick to my way of not promising anything and maybe leave someday, instead of saying I will stay forever and then leave all of a sudden.” Hummels told Sky Sports
It sounds to me like he’s content to remain at Dortmund until the end of the season but will consider his future if Jurgen Klopps men continue to struggle during the second half of the campaign.
As it stands, Dortmund are going to struggle to qualify for the Europa League, never mind the Champions League, and a player of Hummels’ quality should be playing at the very highest level, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he looks for a move in the summer.

If he does decide he wants a new challenge at the end of the season, then no doubt the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd will be interested, and I’d love to see him try his luck in the Premier League, so hopefully one of the big English clubs will be able to lure him to these shores.
