[Player Ratings] Brighton 2-3 Arsenal: Rosicky Shines For Gunners
Arsenal booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a hard fought 3-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. Here are my ratings.
Arsenal booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a hard fought 3-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.
Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil fired Arsenal into a 2-0 half time lead but Brighton reduced the deficit early in the second half before Thomas Rosicky restored the two-goal advantage with a stunning volley.
The hosts pulled another one back with 15 minute left but we held on to book our place in tomorrow’s fifth round draw. Here are my ratings from the game:
Szczesny 6/10 | Not particularly at fault for either goal and barely made another save. But two goals from two shots on target never looks good for any goalkeeper.
Chambers 7/10 | Superb work down the right to set up the opener but didn’t look that comfortable at the back. Perhaps lucky to get away with a late handball in the box.
Koscielny 7/10 | Very composed in the first half but seemed to lose his way after the break.
Monreal 6/10 | Didn’t look as comfortable alongside Koscielny as he does Mertesacker when he plays in the middle.
Gibbs 7/10 | Solid enough in defence and was always keen to get forward.
Flamini 6/10 | Partly to blame for their first goal and was generally poor all afternoon. Don’t see him regaining the shirt form Coquelin on this evidence.
Walcott 7.5/10 | Back from his injury and back among the goals with a lovely strike. We’ve missed him this past year, he’s going to be a big player for us during the second half of the season.
Ramsey 7/10 | Still not back to his best of last season but another efficient performance. Did the simple stuff well and worked his socks off in midfield.
Ozil 7.5/10 | Another whose back from a lengthy injury and got himself on the score-sheet with a calm finish. It’s going to be interesting to see where he fits in with Cazorla playing so well.
Rosicky 9/10 | Superb all-round display. He totally ran the game, provided an excellent assist for Ozil and scored the winner with a sensational volley. MOTM.
Giroud 7/10 | Not his best performance but got the assist for the all-important Rosicky goal.
Subs:
Sanchez 6.5/10 | Busy display when he came on but lost the ball a few too many times.
Akpom 6.5/10 | Lively cameo and caused their defence problems with his pace.
Not vintage Arsenal and we were poor at the back in the second half but it was a thrilling cup tie and we’re in the draw for the fifth round. That’s all that matters.
