Man Utd Boss Louis van Gaal Offers Update On Injured Duo

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has given an update on Phil Jones and Daley Blind after the duo were both forced off during last night’s 3-1 win over Burnley.
Jones started alongside Jonny Evans in defence but lasted only five minutes before limping off with what appeared to be a knee injury with Chris Smalling coming on to make himself an unlikely hero by scoring two goals.
Blind took a blow to the head following an aerial challenge midway through the first half and required stitches on the side of the pitch to close a nasty wound near his left eye. The Dutch midfielder tried to carry on before eventually being replaced by Ander Herrera in the 39th minute.
Speaking to ManUtd.com after the match, van Gaal admitted he’s fearing the worst for Jones as the player looked ‘very disappointed’ after being forced off with a knee injury but there is better news regarding Blind, as the midfielder was only suffering from a headache and should be in contention to face Preston in the FA Cup on Monday.
van Gaal told the clubs website:
“I think, for Jones, we have to wait and see,”
“I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it’s a knee problem so it’s not good.
“Blind has a headache but I don’t think he is out of the game on Monday [in the FA Cup against Preston North End].”
Jones has only recently returned from several weeks on the sidelines through injury so he’ll be hugely disappointed if he’s ruled out again. The club will no doubt wait until any swelling goes down before they assess the injury further but van Gaal will be hoping it’s nothing too serious.
