Michael Owen States His Prediction For Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Liverpool legend Michael Owen has made his prediction for the Merseysiders trip to Crystal Palace and is tipping his former club to drop points on Sunday.

The Reds head to Selhurst Park this weekend off the back of a hugely impressive 3-0 demolition of Manchester City at Anfield on Wednesday night which avenged their Capital One Cup final loss to the Citizens last Sunday.

That win saw Liverpool climb to eighth place in the Premier League table and to within six points of the top four so Jugen Klopp will be hoping to build on that result to help his side make a late push for Champions League qualification next season.

However, former striker Michael Owen is tipping the Reds to slip up this weekend as he feels Palace will be desperate to address their recent slump in form which is threatening to drag Alan Pardew’s side in to the relegation mix.

Writing in his column for Colossus Bets, Owen predicted an ‘inconsistent’ Liverpool would be held to a 1-1 draw at Selhurst this weekend.

It’s a good job that Palace are going so well in the Cup, otherwise their morale would be at an all-time low having not taken three points in the league since winning at Stoke in mid-December.

And if they don’t start winning soon, especially at home where they have lost a Premier League-low eight times, they will be dragged into the relegation mire. And conceding an injury-time equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Sunderland on Tuesday night didn’t really help matters.

But they did win 2-1 at Anfield earlier in the season. However, you clearly can’t be confident about Palace at the moment, for all their Cup exploits, and a frustratingly inconsistent Liverpool side showed how good they can be when beating Man City 3-0 on Wednesday night.

I go for 1-1.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Owen’s prediction proves accurate but if the former hitman is right, then it will be a real blow to Liverpool’s top four hopes as fourth-placed Man City also have a game in hand and you’d expect them to beat Aston Villa on home soil tomorrow.
