Arsenal Sign 4 Players On Dramatic Deadline Day

Arsenal signed four players on deadline day, although there was no big-money signing that many fans were expecting.

In came the expected defensive pair Andre Santos and Per Mertesacker, with the deals formally announced after being completed on Tuesday. Santos came in for a fee of £6.2 million while Mertesacker was thought to be around the £8m mark.

Attention then turned to the midfield area and finding replacements for Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Arsene Wenger went for experienced premiership players and the first to be announced was the signing of Chelsea’s Yossi Benayoun on a season long loan.

Perhaps the most exciting transfer was that of Mikel Arteta, with the deal being finalised just seconds before the 11pm deadline. The Everton man joins Arsenal on a 4 year contract for a fee thought to be in the region of £10m.

Many Arsenal fans are still feeling disappointed despite these signings, with no real marquee player coming in following the big-money departures of Fabregas and Nasri, and some are pointing to the fact the club has once again made a profit in the transfer window.

Arsenal also saw striker Nicklas Bendtner join Sunderland on loan for the season, while Henri Lansbury joined West Ham, also on loan.
