Why Did Robin Van Persie Visit Barcelona’s Team Hotel After Wigan Defeat?

By on April 17, 2012

Robin van Persie 2

Interesting story coming from the Daily Mail today as they claim that Arsenal striker Robin van Persie made a late visit to the Barcelona team hotel on Monday night following the 2-1 defeat to Wigan.

The Mail report that van Persie headed straight to the Marriott hotel on Park Lane after our shock 2-1 defeat at the Emirates, and met up with members of the Barca team who are staying at the Marriott ahead of their Champions League semi final with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Of course nobody can know for certain why RVP went to the hotel that Barcelona were staying in, but the Mail claim he met up with his fellow countryman Ibrahim Afellay, and suggest he is also likely to have seen Cesc Fabregas as well.

They then go on to make the rather obvious hint that Van P was there as part of some sort of covert operation to lure him to the Nou Camp in the summer, but that’s highly unlikely. I wouldn’t be surprised if some Barca official tried to buy him a drink at the bar and have a quick ‘chat’ about life in Catalonia, but from RVP’s point-of-view i feel the visit was entirely innocent and he was simply taking the opportunity to catch up with some friends.

Although it probably wasn’t the best idea to head straight to Barcelona’s team hotel on the night we suffer a humiliating home defeat at the hands of relegation strugglers, especially given the uncertainty over his future. He simply gave the media a story by doing this. Maybe next time he should arrange to meet his mates at a restaurant away from the team hotel.

I’m tired of vp’s shannanigans. The other day it was about the pic he posted on twitter, the “handshake”, and now this!!. Leave him alone.

The guy simply went to get a few tips on steadying the Arsenal ship, keeping it from sinking by the former gunners captain.

Very bright. Still never mind, the boredom will be over soon when the school holidays finish………and presumably you’ll be moving up to ‘big school’ in September.

Why is it disrespectful to go and see a friend who you have spent time with in the same team for 7 years? I have old work colleagues who have left my company for pastures new – I certainly don’t see how I’m disrespecting my company by going to say hello to them.

So when Fabregas came to watch his old team mates earlier in the season, that was disrespectful to Barca was it? Arsenal is a big club where the players will always be wanted by the biggest clubs in the world. Sad to see people crying their eyes out just because of a media story.

LET HIM GO I’M TIRED. I NOW DOUBT WE GONNA FINISH TOP 4. THE TEAM IS TOO WEAK; CONCEDING 2 GOALS IN 2 MINUTES.

If Arsenal play against the chavs in the way they responded to the QPR defeat, then by the time spuds kick-off there could be an 8pt gap – at this stage in the season points won are more desirable that games in hand.

Team is weak? No, you are weak giving up after a loss. Last 11 games; won 9, lost 2. Man up, grow some balls, live with it. If you can’t, look for another hobby, how about train spotting? Or is that too exciting for you.

Ever noticed who Barca play against? RVP has been a Gunner long enough to know Anyone who can beat another London team is worthy of a pat on the back, in person, if applicable. Also, Cesc is a long-standing friend and Afellay likewise, though perhaps not at the same level of familiarity.
But seriously, if these were transfer talks, how stealth can you get? Already half the world know he’s been there…

Precisely. He wasn’t trying to hide where he was going because he has nothing to hide.

Arsenal are a very average team these days. Who would blame rvp for having ambition? He certainly deserves to play for a bigger club than Arsenal.

Average? 3rd in the Premier League is average? Mug.

        April 17, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Sorry if thats upsets you but its the truth. Man U and Man C are a very long way ahead of Arsenal at the moment, yet people have claimed they have not been great so that only means Arsenal have been average to poor. This is a very weak Arsenal team. You wont be fighting for the title for a long time.

        • Mr Finch

          April 17, 2012 at 7:20 pm

Sorry to disappoint you Jason but I know of some of the players coming in next year and I can tell you we will be challenging next year. As for average, look it up in the dictionary.

Of course you do finch. we all know what players our clubs are going to sign dont we. Arsenal would need to spend 200 million to complete with the top clubs and we all know that wont happen. Too much crap in the team atm like walcott etc. RVP goes and Arseanl are left with no top players. The best you can hope for next season is a top four spot, mark my words, its the same every year with you lot, all to predictable. You dont even play good football anymore.

Some of you have to realise that players lead a life outside of football and operate in a different social circle to you and I. Van Persie clocked off his job after the game and went to see his mates. So what. When you have a bad day at work do you go home and cry and become unsociable?

Rejoyce – seriously get a grip.

Here i was, dying of frustration after the game and RVP was busy partying with his friends. YES Naz, the guy should have gone home to cry like the rest of us who pay for his wages

      • Naz

        April 18, 2012 at 11:31 am

Well Karis, you do that after a bad day at work. Im sure thats what your employer expects.

I think you’ll find it started a long time ago. When as a kid he said he wanted to join Arsenal & play for Holland. Since then he’s played in finals, scored in World Cups and captained one of the top 10 biggest clubs in world football.

SO if you look at the stats Johan Djourou has started 14 games in the PL this season in which 8 of arsenals 10 defeats have occurred. also has been the a starting feature in our loss to Man C in the CC, our loss to Sunderland in the FAC and our 4-0 away loss to AC Milan in the CL. Coincidence i think not!!!!

I RVP has life outside football after defeat to wigan he should not take asolo responsibility,Let him live his life and if he feels to exit he is free after he stayed with us when types of Narsi went to lift trophies.I respect his decision to visit barca and did we were told how other players took defeat stop panicking.RVP has been royal from standing 17 to top 3 he deserve some gentlemanship.

Honestly i dnt see d reason 4 bodering about rvp, if he desides 2 leave, pls let him leave, he’s 29yrs old and deserves to win some trophies, i dont see him winning anything @ Arsenal cos they are not serious about winning anything judging by the ways they act in transfer market, too many average players in d team
