Man Utd Team News: van Gaal Confirms Double Injury Blow + Offers Shaw Update
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed two players will miss tomorrow’s clash with Sunderland while he also gave an update on Luke Shaw.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair will miss tomorrow’s clash with Sunderland while he also gave an update on Luke Shaw.
Rojo only made his first start of the new campaign during last weekend’s 3-2 win at Southampton but the versatile defender was forced off after picking up a minor injury during the second half at St Mary’s.
The Argentinean international subsequently missed Wednesday night’s victory over Ipswich Town in the Capital One Cup and now van Gaal has confirmed Rojo will also sit-out tomorrow’s clash with Sunderland.
He’ll be joined on the sidelines by fellow defender McNair after he also suffered a knock during his first appearance of the season against Southampton last week, and the Northern Irishman will now also miss the visit of the Black Cats.
The duo are United’s only other injuries apart from long-term casualty Luke Shaw, but van Gaal says the left-back is showing positive signs during the early stages of his recovery after being ruled out for around six months with a double leg break.
van Gaal he told ManUtd.com:
“I met him [Shaw] last night. He was very positive. It’s amazing for me. There are very good signals. We have already started the rehabilitation. He shall be visited at home for the first electro muscle stimulants, so I think it’s very good.”
“We have three injuries – Rojo, Shaw and Paddy McNair,”
“It’s the same and we have to wait to see how the players recover because there are only two days between the two matches. Until now I don’t know how I’ll put the line-up.”
With Rojo and Shaw out injured, Ashley Young is expected to continue to deputise at left-back having impressed against Ipswich in midweek.
Otherwise, United have a full complement of players to choose from as they look to continue their recent good form and put further pressure on leaders Manchester City – who are now just two points clear of United following last weeks loss to West Ham.
