Man Utd Team News: van Gaal Confirms Triple Injury Doubt Ahead of Wolfsburg Clash
Louis van Gaal has confirmed three of his first team players are likely to miss tomorrow night’s Champions League clash with Wolfsburg. See more details.
Manchester United will look to kick-start their Champions League campaign when they take on Wolfsburg at Old Trafford tomorrow night.
Ahead of the game, Louis van Gaal has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update.
The Dutchman confirmed that three of his first teamers are major doubts for the game with Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera all set to miss out against the Bundesliga outfit.
The trio all missed training on Tuesday due to minor injuries and van Gaal has suggested he won’t take any risks with them for tomorrow night’s game as he would prefer to protect their long-term fitness.
He told the clubs website:
“I think Michael Carrick shall not play tomorrow [Wednesday]. The other two [Herrera and Valencia] we have to wait and see. They have minor injuries so I don’t want to take any risks,”
“Like we have done with Wayne Rooney, we will do the same for Michael Carrick or Ander Herrera. It’s the same because we have to play a full season and it’s better to withdraw players for one match than they play and get injured.”
If all three aren’t risked tomorrow then Bastian Schweinsteiger is likely to partner Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield while Ashley Young could deputise at left-back.
Marcos Rojo is another injury doubt after also missing training today. The Argentinean international has missed United’s last two games with an injury that he suffered against Southampton and while van Gaal didn’t give any specific update on his condition, the defender isn’t expected to feature tomorrow night.
United go into the Wolfsburg game desperate for a win after losing 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven two weeks ago so van Gaal will be keen to get their campaign back on track with all three points on Wednesday.
