Man Utd Concern As Midfielder Picks Up Fresh Injury + Rooney & Carrick Update

Manchester United will be sweating over the fitness of Bastian Schweinsteiger after he picked up a thigh injury while on international duty plus we have the latest on Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick.
Schweinsteiger was due to start for the reigning World Champions against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin last night but was forced to miss the game after tweaking his thigh during the warm-up.
A statement on the German Football Association Twitter account before the match confirmed the news:
“@BSchweinsteiger picked up an injury during the pre-match warm-up and will miss the game.”
Germany certainly missed the midfielder as they went on to suffer a shock 1-0 loss at the Aviva Stadium to leave Joachim Low’s side still needing at least a point against Georgia to secure automatic qualification for next summer’s European Championships.
However, it will be Schweinsteiger’s fitness that will be the concern for Louis van Gaal and the Dutchman will now be facing an anxious wait to see if the midfielder will be passed fit for United’s clash with Everton next weekend.
Wayne Rooney could also be a slight doubt for the trip to Goodison Park after being ruled out of England’s Euro qualifiers with Estonia and Lithuania due to a minor ankle injury.
Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has decided not to risk the striker so hopefully he has time to recover in time to take on his boyhood club next Saturday.
There is some more positive news regarding Michael Carrick as Hodgson is confident the United man will be passed fit to start against Estonia at Wembley this evening, despite the midfielder missing training with a groin problem.
Hodgson said:
“We have been waiting for his [Rooney] ankle injury to settle down,” the England manager is quoted as saying by ManUtd.com.
“It is settling down very well and we certainly don’t want to risk him because he has lots of important Manchester United games ahead. I would be devastated if we pushed him out there and something happened to increase the problem he has with his ankle. So we decided it is better that he doesn’t play in this game.
“During the time he was receiving treatment for the ankle injury he has been very keen to stay with us, and very keen to be part of our post-match meetings we had in regards to the Switzerland game. I am sure he is looking forward to Sir Bobby presenting him with his golden boot.”
“Michael trained fully in quite an intense training session on Wednesday but he had a re-occurrence of a feeling that he sometimes gets in his groin – a slight tightening of the groin – and we didn’t want to take any chances in what was a fairly light session before the match,” said Hodgson on Thursday. “So we decided to rest him for the session on the basis that it will help him be fit for tomorrow night.”
van Gaal will be hoping that all three of Schweinsteiger, Rooney and Carrick will be available for United’s clash with Everton as they look to bounce back from last Sunday’s disappointing loss at Arsenal.
