Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is fit to face Liverpool tomorrow but the Premier League leaders will have to make do without three of their key men.
Manuel Pellegrini has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference today ahead of the game at the Etihad and has given mcfc.co.uk a team news and injury update.
The good news for City is that star striker Sergio Aguero has been passed fit to return to action after enduring a six week lay off with a niggling hamstring injury.
The Argentinean international’s return couldn’t be better timed as Pellegrini also revealed that Wilfried Bony – who’s been deputising up front in recent weeks – has been ruled out of the Liverpool game with his own hamstring strain.
The Ivory Coast star is joined on the sidelines by skipper Vincent Kompany after he was ruled out with a calf problem while playmaker David Silva remains unavailable as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.
The trio will therefore sit in the stands along with Samir Nasri after the French international was ruled out for at least two months with a hamstring tear, but Pellegrini gave no indication over the availability of Fabian Delph or Pablo Zabaleta despite the duo returning to training this week.
Here is what the City boss told mcfc.co.uk:
“Sergio is fit – he’s ready to come back,”
“David continues with some small sprain in his ankle so it’s a risk for him to play. Unfortunately also, Samir Nasri is injured. Bony and Vincent Kompany are also injured.
“One of the merits of this team is not just to depend on one player but of course our team is better with Sergio.”
City head into the weekend action sitting top of the Premier League table on goal difference but second-placed Arsenal could go three points clear if they win at West Brom on Saturday afternoon, so the pressure could be on Pellegrini’s men to respond when they entertain Liverpool tomorrow evening.
