Liverpool Fear Fresh Injury Blow As Star Man Sent For Further Tests
Philippe Coutinho will undergo further tests on his hamstring as Liverpool fear the injury may be worse than first thought, according to the Mirror.
Philippe Coutinho will undergo further tests on his hamstring as Liverpool fear the injury may be worse than first thought, according to the Mirror.
The Brazilian played a key role in helping Liverpool to an impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday night but failed to complete the full ninety minutes after limping off during the closing stages of the game with an apparent hamstring problem.
The Merseysiders had initially hoped that it was nothing more than cramp but the Mirror claim that initial checks at Melwood on Monday proved inconclusive prompting fears the injury is worse than first thought.
The newspaper says Liverpool are seeking a second opinion meaning that Coutinho will undergo further medical checks today to determine the full extent of the problem before the club place any time-frame on his recovery.
The playmaker is almost certainly out of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Bordeaux at Anfield but we’ll have to wait for further news before his possible involvement against Swansea City on Sunday is known.
Losing Coutinho for any length of time would be a major blow to Jurgen Klopp as the South American is a vital part of Liverpool’s team and was outstanding at the Etihad on Saturday, scoring one and setting up two others.
Liverpool’s season has been plagued by injuries to key men so it would be devastating to lose a player of Coutinho’s caliber just when it looked like Klopp was getting his squad back together.
However, there could be some good news as despite the Mirror’s take on things, the Liverpool Echo are reporting that Coutinho’s hamstring is only a minor strain and he could be fit to face Swansea this weekend.
I suppose we’ll just have to wait for more information to come out but I’m sure Liverpool fans around the world are praying Coutinho’s injury is nothing serious.
