Former Real President Claims Mourinho Is Madrid-Bound After Chelsea Confirm Sacking
Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claims that Jose Mourinho is set for a sensational return to the Bernabeu after he was sacked as Chelsea boss
Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claims that Jose Mourinho is set for a sensational return to the Bernabeu after he was sacked as Chelsea boss this afternoon.
Mourinho was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge earlier today after a disastrous first half to the season that’s seen the defending champions dragged in to a surprise relegation battle.
The Blues slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Leicester City on Monday night which made it just 8 points from their last 10 games and left the West Londoners sitting 16th in the Premier League table and just one point above the drop zone.
Mourinho’s much-publicised fall-out with former physio Eva Carneiro has also piled further pressure on the Portuguese coaches shoulders while he’s been hugely critical of his players in the media in recent weeks.
It seems it was all too much for owner Roman Abroamovich as the club confirmed on Chelseafc.com this afternoon that Mourinho had left the club ‘by mutual consent’. The statement read:
Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent.
All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.
His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.
The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.
The club’s focus is now on ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential.
Following the news, all the talk has been about who Mourinho’s successor will be at Chelsea with the likes of Guus Hiddink and Juande Ramos leading the way according to the bookmakers.
However, there could be a real story developing concerning Mourinho’s future as former Real Madrid president Roman Calderon took to Twitter this afternoon to claim that ‘Mourinho is closer to Madrid’ before saying that ‘only a few things to sort out and he’ll be here’.
It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind these claims but it would be sensational if Mourinho was to end up back at the Bernabeu. Rafa Benitez’s position as manager came under further strain following Sunday’s loss at Villarreal so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he was relieved of his duties soon and according to Calderon, Mourinho is the man who’s set to take over.
