Chelsea Team News: Hiddink Confirms Double Injury Boost But Star Ruled Out
Guus Hiddink has confirmed mixed injury news ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with West Brom tomorrow night. Check out the latest here.
Guus Hiddink has revealed mixed injury news ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with West Brom tomorrow night.
The interim boss held his pre-match press conference this afternoon as he prepares to welcome the Baggies to Stamford Bridge and he’s given Chelseafc.com the latest team news.
Unfortunately Hiddink confirmed that Eden Hazard will once again miss out as the Belgian international has failed to recover from a groin injury that he picked up against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Hazard missed the midweek FA Cup win over Scunthorpe United and although he’s now back in light training with the clubs physio’s, Hiddink says it’s still too early for him to be under consideration for a first team return.
There was some more positive news on the injury front as the Dutchman also revealed that Diego Costa has made a swift recovery from a knock which he picked up against Scunthorpe at the weekend and the Spanish international should be available to face West Brom tomorrow night.
In a double boost, Hiddink also confirmed that Loic Remy is now back in full training with the rest of the squad after finally overcoming a niggling calf injury that he picked up before Christmas.
Hiddink told the clubs website:
‘Hazard was on the pitch today with the physios and trainers, he’s doing better and better but is still not available,’ he said.
‘He’s not been with the group. We want to have him fit. It’s better a little late than one hour too early.’
‘Costa is okay. The day after the game he was eager to go out on to the pitch, so I was amazed, but he was recovering very actively so he is okay.’
‘I think so [he will be available].’
‘Remy is joining the group. He’d been training individually but in the last two days he practiced with us.’
Chelsea head in to tomorrow night’s game sitting 14th in the Premier League table and a full 13 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham so they desperately need to register a win in order to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive.
