Arsenal are targetting a swoop for £10m-rated midfielder Moussa Sissoko this summer following Newcastle United’s relegation from the Premier League, according to the Mirror.
Arsene Wenger is expected to be busy in the transfer market after the Gunners missed out on their best chance to win the title in over a decade – eventually finishing 10-points adrift of champions Leicester City.
The French boss is likely to shake-up his midfield options with Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini all set to leave next month while Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future’s at the club are also in doubt.
While we’re widely reported to be on the verge of signing Granit Xhaka with photos emerged of the Swiss star posing in the new Arsenal kit at an official photo-shoot, another midfielder is going to be needed this summer.
It looks like Sissoko is on Arsene’s radar as the Mirror claim that we’re now targetting a move for the French international following Newcastle’s relegation from the Premier League this season.
Several big names are expected to leave St James’ Park this summer after they dropped in to the Championship and the newspaper suggests the Magpies could cash-in on Sissoko if a £10m offer was put on the table.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to North London in previous transfer windows after being one of Newcastle’s most important players since joining the club from Toulouse in 2013 and it looks like the rumours have once again resurfaced.
Sissoko has been deployed as a right-winger or central midfielder during his time with Newcastle so he’d give Arsene plenty of options and he’s a powerful player who is also technically gifted, so I think he’d be a useful addition to the squad.

However, I can’t see any formal move being made until we officially wrap-up the signing of Xhaka and even then Arsene may wait and see what happens with Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain before he makes any swoop for Sissoko.
