De Gea Axed From Spain Squad Amid Reports Of Involvement In Sexual Assault Case
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been axed from Spain’s Euro 2016 squad amid reports he’s been implicated in a sexual assault case.
According to developing reports today, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been axed from Spain’s Euro 2016 squad amid reports he’s been implicated in a sexual assault case back in his homeland.
Spanish outlet AS are reporting that De Gea has been named by a protected witness as being the man to arrange a meeting with Athletic Bilbao striker Iker Muniain and another unnamed player where the alleged sexual assault took place.
The Spanish newspaper claims that the victim made a statement to police on June 3 2015 regarding the incident, which supposedly took place in a five star hotel in Madrid back in 2012 – a year after De Gea had joined United from Atletico Madrid.
According to the alleged victim, De Gea arranged with porn producer Ignacio Fernandez, known as ‘Torbe’, for Muniain and the unknown player to meet her at the hotel room. When she arrived, the protected witness claims she met the two footballers and another girl where she was told by Torbe she would be paid handsomely but only if she did everything the footballers wanted her to do.
When she refused, the alleged victim – who the police describe as ‘highly credible’ – says she was both sexually and physically assaulted by the two footballers and the police report indicates that the girl wasn’t even paid as Torbe kept all of the money.
According to AS, the Spanish police’s report from the witness – known as TP3 – read:
“Having brought TP3 (Protected Witness 3) to the room with the other girl, Torbe told her that they had to be with the footballers, and that they had to do whatever they wanted and that they [the girls] would earn significant money. When TP3 refused, Torbe took her roughly by the arm, saying they had to do whatever the footballer wanted, having sex with the new girl and her”.
“Both the new girl and TP3 were sexually assaulted by the footballers, given that if they refused they were physically attacked by both, and moreover, having satisfied the sexual desires of both players, the footballers threatened them in order to ensure that what had happened in the room would never be heard about. Neither TP3 or the other girl who was in the room received anything for the physical and sexual assault they suffered, with Torbe taking all the earnings”.
Torbe is not a man you want to be associated with as he was jailed last April on charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, sexual assault, child pornography related to prostitution and extortion, so this is a very serious case for De Gea and the other footballers to be involved in.
Spanish outlet El Diario have an extensive article covering the story where it’s also claimed that De Gea and Torbe kept in touch after the encounter because they were trying to keep the alleged victim quiet.
The article also suggests that De Gea later tried to arrange another encounter with 5 Manchester United players but there is no evidence that this ever took place.
Following these reports, the Independent claim that De Gea has now been sent home from the Spanish camp and will not play any part in Euro 2016.
It’s important to note at this point that these are just allegations against the United goalkeeper but this is developing in to a very serious case and one that will certainly concern Jose Mourinho and the rest of the United staff.
*UPDATE* The Mirror now claim that De Gea has NOT been sent home from the Spain squad and will train with his team mates as normal this evening.
