Man Utd Ready To Hijack Man City’s £50m Move For Serie A Star
Manchester United are ready to hijack Manchester City’s proposed £50m move for a Serie A star as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in another big money signing
The summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd join Man City in the race for Leonardo Bonucci….
Manchester United are ready to hijack Manchester City’s proposed £50m move for Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in another defender this summer, according to the Mirror.
Bonucci has become one of the best central defenders in world football since joining Juve from Bari in 2010 with his rock solid performances at the back helping them to five consecutive league titles.
The 29-year-old continued his excellent form in to the European Championships where he led Italy to the quarter finals before they crashed out to Germany following a dramatic penalty shoot-out and the centre-back has attracted interest from England.
Man City have been strongly linked with Bonucci in recent weeks and the Mirror claim they are prepared to pay Juventus a whopping £50m to land the Italian as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of his debut season in the Premier League.
However, it looks as though the former Barcelona boss is going to face stiff competition as the newspaper suggests that United are now ready to try and hijack City’s attempts to sign Bonucci this summer.
Mourinho has already splashed out big-money on highly-rated Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly but there are concerns that the 22-year-old isn’t ready to be a regular just yet so the ‘Special One’ is on the look out for an experienced partner for Chris Smalling.
Bonucci would certainly fit the bill and he’d be a sensational signing for United if they could pull it off, however, with the club also in negotiations with Juve over Paul Pogba, it appears highly unlikely that the Serie A giants would agree to sell two of their key players to the Red Devils.
The Turin giants have already brought in Medhi Benatia from Bayern Munich while young centre-back Daniele Rugani is tipped to have a bright future ahead of him, so Juventus could theoretically cash-in on Bonucci if the money was right.

However, it’s rare that a European giant sells two of their star men to the same club in the same summer so I’d personally be surprised if Juve agreed to do business with United for Bonucci and Pogba. Which would Mourinho rather have? My guess would certainly be the French midfielder.
We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming weeks but Bonucci would be a superb signing for any club this summer, that’s for sure.
