Man Utd Eyeing La Liga Superstar As Mourinho Plans For Life After Rooney
Manchester United are eyeing a big-money move for a La Liga attacker after Jose Mourinho identified him as a long-term replacement for Wayne Rooney
The summer transfer window is now closed for another year but it’s not time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Man Utd are linked with Antoine Griezmann….
Manchester United are eyeing a big-money move for Antoine Griezmann after Jose Mourinho identified the Altletico Madrid superstar as a long-term replacement for Wayne Rooney, according to the Mirror.
Rooney has been at United since moving to Old Trafford from Everton as a teenager back in 2004 and has scored 246 goals in his 524 appearances so far to help the Manchester giants win a whole host of honours including 5 Premier League titles and the Champions League.
However, Rooney turns 31 in October and his influence on the United team has been dwindling in recent seasons so it’s understandable Mourinho is starting to think about potential replacements for his skipper.
And according to the Mirror, the Portuguese coach has identified Greizmann as the man he wants to take over the mantle from Rooney with United understood to be eyeing a big-money move for the French international next summer.
Griezmann has become one of the best attackers in world football since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Socieded in 2014 and scored 32 goals in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side last season.
The 25-year-old carried that form in to this summers European championships as won Player of the Tournament having scored six goals to help France in to the final where they narrowly lost out to Portugal.
Griezmann did sign a new long-term contract in June that saw his buy-out figure increase to around £86m but United have shown they aren’t afraid to spend that kind of money after breaking the world record to land Paul Pogba this summer.
The forward heaped priase on United after saying they were the ‘perfect’ club for his international team-mate. Griezmann is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Manchester [United] is the perfect club for him [Pogba], with Mourinho they are making something new,”

I think Griezmann would be a sensational signing for United if they could somehow lure him away from Atletico next summer and I’d love to see another one of the world’s best players plying their trade here in the Premier League.
