Tottenham Team News: Pochettino Offers Update On 5 Key Men Ahead Of Man City
Mauricio Pochettino has offered an update on the fitness of five key players ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday
Tottenham will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season when they entertain leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele all missed the midweek Champions League win against CSKA Moscow with hamstring injuries while Moussa Sissoko also missed the trip to Russia with concussion.
Pochettino gave very little away on the condition of the quartet other than to say he’s ‘very positive’ on the injured players and he’ll make a decision over their availability to face City after Saturday’s final training session.
Key striker Harry Kane was another player absent for Tottenham’s Champions League group stage clash as he continues to nurse an ankle injury which he suffered against Sunderland earlier this month.
Kane has missed the last three games in all competitions and while there was a positive update on his fitness earlier this week, the striker will still miss Sunday’s huge clash with City.
Pochettino is quoted as saying by the Ham & High newspaper:
“I’m very positive with the injured players but I need to assess them tomorrow,”
“Today maybe they’re at the same level. We are very positive on them but there’s one more training session tomorrow and then I will take the decision. Only Harry [Kane] is a little bit behind.”
So we’ll have to wait and see whether the likes of Rose, Dembele, Sissoko or Dier are able to make their comeback from injury this weekend but Spurs fans will be hoping the north Londoners can make do without Kane against City.
