Arsenal fans have been reacting on Twitter after Lucas Perez scored a superb hat-trick during our 4-1 win over Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Spaniard has found regular first team football hard to come by since moving to north London from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer with the majority of his starts coming in the League Cup.
However, he was handed a rare start in the Champions League on Tuesday night and it’s safe to say he took it with both hands after netting a proper strikers hat-trick in Switzerland.
Perez opened the scoring inside ten minutes with a close-range finish following a lovely cross from Kieran Gibbs and was on hand to make ti 2-0 after Gibbs’s shot was well saved in the 16th minute.
The 28-year-old completed his treble shortly after half-time when he raced clear [again from a Gibbs assist] to fire a right-footed shot in to the bottom corner to make it a memorable night for the striker.
It means Perez has now scored five goals and provided three assists in his five starts [8 appearances overall] in all competitions, which is a superb return for a player who’s hardly had a solid run in the team and has seen his campaign disrupted by a recent injury.

In 47 minutes, Lucas Perez has scored the same number of goals as Spurs have scored in their entire Champions League campaign this season.

Wow. 0-3. Hat-trick for @LP10oficial in 47 minutes. Looks a very clinical finisher. #BASvAFC

Lucas is a proper goal poacher. In the right place at the right time. Given the chances he will score goals

Perez's performance is exactly what we have lacked in the past. Fringe players taking the opportunity and stepping up when called upon.
