Man Utd Team News: Jose Mourinho Confirms These 2 Players Will Start vs Wigan
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that these two players will start for Manchester United during their FA Cup fourth round clash with Wigan this weekend.
Manchester United will be looking to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup when they take on Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, boss Jose Mourinho has been speaking to ManUtd.com this afternoon and he’s given the clubs official website a team news and injury update.
The Portuguese coach has confirmed that he plans to make some changes to the side that lost to Hull City in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi final on Thursday night but Mourinho insists it will still be a strong team on show.
The United boss revealed that David De Gea has been given a few days off to rest this weekend so No.2 goalkeeper Sergio Romero will come in between the sticks to make just his sixth appearance of the season.
Mourinho also confirmed that with Romero starting it will open the door for recent loan returnee Joel Pereira to take his place on the bench against Warren Joyce’s side on Sunday.
Another player who is set to be given a chance to impress is Anthony Martial with Mourinho revealing that the French international will get a recall in attack this weekend.
Martial hasn’t been included in United’s last two squad’s following some questionable performances but Mourinho has challenged the 21-year-old to stake his claim for a regular starting spot on Sunday.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by ManUtd.com:
“This is the second match for us in the FA Cup and I want to do it in a serious way. We have to play with a very good team; the only player that is out is De Gea – I’ll give him a few days off.
“I will play Romero, I will put Joel on the bench and apart from that I go with a good team because we want to try to beat them. Anthony will play on Sunday and if he plays magnificently, he will play against Hull in the next match – it’s simple.”
“I will make some changes – that’s obvious. We play Hull again three days after Wigan but I’m going to play a good team with the responsibility to give fans a good performance at home and with the responsibility to try to win against Wigan.”
United have no fresh injury worries to contend with so Mourinho has plenty of players available to freshen things up with the likes of Luke Shaw, Marouane Fellaini, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata all pushing for recalls after being named on the bench last night.
