Man Utd Team News: Mourinho Offers Mixed Injury Update Ahead Of Watford
Jose Mourinho has offered a mixed team news and injury update ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Watford this weekend.
Man Utd will look to continue their push for the top four when they take on Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update.
The United boss confirmed that Phil Jones remains unavailable for selection after failing to recover from a foot injury that kept him out of last weekend’s win over Leicester City.
Jones suffered the injury during United’s 0-0 draw with Hull City ten days ago and while the issue isn’t thought to be too serious, the centre-back will still miss tomorrow’s clash with Watford.
However, there was better news regarding the fitness of Wayne Rooney after Mourinho revealed that the attacker is ‘fine’ after missing the win at the King Power last weekend through illness.
The Reds boss told the clubs website:
“Every team needs four central defenders. But we coped well without Eric. The other guys did very, very well.
“Now it’s time for Jones to be out and time for Eric to be in. Of course, we’re happy he played already that last match and he showed again security and understanding with the other guys, so we’re fine.”

It’s a blow for United to lose Jones again as he’s been in excellent form in recent months but luckily they have Eric Bailly back and the Ivory Coast international put in a solid display last weekend.
Therefore, I expect Bailly will continue alongside Chris Smalling at the back tomorrow with Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian battling it out for the left-back spot.
Rooney’s return to fitness will give Mourinho another option in attack, however, I think the England skipper will have to make do with a place on the bench as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all expected to keep their places this weekend.
