The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Fred….
Manchester United are ready to try and hijack Manchester City’s attempts to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Fred has been a vital player for Shakhtar since joining the club from Internacional in 2013 while he’s also broken in to the Brazilian national team and is hoping to make the squad for the World Cup finals.
The 25-year-old’s impressive displays have caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Manchester United and Manchester City have both expressed their interest. The newspaper says City came close to completing a £40m deal during the January window but are expected to renew their interest this summer after failing to get the move over the line.
City are in the market for a defensive midfielder as Fernandinho turns 33 next month while Yaya Toure is set to be released and it seems Pep Guardiola has lined-up Fred as a replacement.
However, the Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho is ready to try and hijack City’s attempts to sign Fred with United also identifying the South American as a prime summer transfer target.
Mourinho needs to revamp his midfield options as Michael Carrick is set to retire at the end of the season while Marouane Fellaini is tipped to leave when his contract expires in June.
Fred would be an excellent addition to the United squad as he could form a solid partnership with Nemanja Matic at the base of midfield which would help get the best out of Paul Pogba following an inconsistent campaign.

However, the Mirror reported earlier this month that Fred’s valuation has now risen to around £50m so United and City will need to dig deep if they want to lure the Brazilian star to the Premier League this summer.
