Man Utd Handed Major Injury Boost – Player To Resume Full Training This Week
Manchester United have been handed a major injury boost as Diogo Dalot is expected to return to full training at some point this week
Manchester United have been handed a major injury boost as Diogo Dalot is expected to return to full training at some point this week, according to the Metro.
Dalot moved to United in a £19m deal from FC Porto earlier in the summer but arrived carrying a knee injury that he sustained while playing in Portugal during the latter stages of last season.
The 19-year-old has been recovering in recent months after undergoing surgery in May and although he travelled with the rest of the United squad to the United States for their pre-season tour, he didn’t feature in any games and only took part in light individual training away from the main group.
However, the Metro claims that Man Utd’s coaching staff have been impressed by Dalot’s fitness in recent days and the defender has now been given the green light to step-up his recovery.
The newspaper says the teenager is now ready to resume ball work and is expected to return to full training with the rest of the first team squad by the end of the week.
After spending so long on the sidelines, Dalot will still need plenty of time to get back to full fitness and Jose Mourinho has previously suggested he wouldn’t be available for selection until early September.
However, the right-back is slightly ahead of schedule so he could be back a little sooner than previously anticipated and his availability will come as a big boost to United.
Antonio Valencia missed the 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Friday night due to injury so the unfancied Matteo Darmian was called upon despite strong speculation suggesting he’s set for a move back to Italy.
No return date has been set for Valencia to recover from his calf problem so Mourinho may hand Dalot his debut as soon as he’s deemed fit enough to return to the squad.
